A nationwide recall of products containing dry milk powder began with tainted milkshake powder. Now it has expanded to instant oatmeal, cereal, hot cocoa, and more. According to the Food and Drug Administration's Stephanie Kwisnek, no illnesses have been linked to the tainted products as of yet.
The U.S. Department of Agriculture detected salmonella in a milkshake powder in June. They traced the salmonella to the plant and the Plainview Milk Products Cooperative issued a voluntary recall of non-fat dried milk, whey protein and thickening agents produced over the past two years.
Since the cooperative sells to food manufacturers and distributors, other companies are affected including Malt-O-Meal. The list of products is expanding.
